Former Husky star and current NFL quarterback Michael Penix Jr. is caught in the middle of a wild fraud story. It feels like the plot to a movie. The latest reports indicate that a former University of Alabama football player, Luther Davis, impersonated three different players to secure millions of dollars in loans. Go so far as to even dress up like the players.
Penix is said to be one of the victims, but doesn't seem to be personally caught up, besides someone pretending to be him. None of his personal information or identification was used; instead, fake identification was used. The companies that Davis scammed are the ones seeking justice.

The case is still ongoing, but Davis targeted and impersonated three different NFL players. Michael Penix Jr., Xavier McKinney, and David Njoku. All players whom Davis felt he could pull off this scam and convince sports finance companies to give him money. The two agencies that were scammed were Aliya Sports Finance, and the underwriter was Sure Sports.
Those two companies are even in court against each other, as negligence is being claimed. This makes a ton of sense because it doesn't seem like Davis had to do much to convince these lenders to give out the money. A fake driver's license and a dewrag were all it took to be Penix.
From ESPN, "On July 26, 2024, Sure Sports and All-Pro Capital Funding set up a video conference to close a loan with "M.P." at a SpringHill Suites in Buford, Georgia. Davis allegedly showed up impersonating Penix to secure a $3.3 million promissory note from All-Pro Capital, showing up with a "durag-style head covering" and providing a fake Florida license with a photo found online."
While it seems like the only problem for Penix is that he is caught in the middle of a weird and wild story, it's still a shocking story that feels like it's out of a movie. One that may eventually even be a movie. A former star college player turns to fraud, impersonating NFL players to receive millions of dollars by dressing up as them. Wild.
