Well, Washington’s home game against Seattle sure didn’t go well. After taking care of business against the Washington State cougars and looking like a team that was moving in the right direction, Danny Sprinkle and the Washington Huskies suffered an alarming loss against the Seattle University Redhawks. Which, you know, ain’t great, folks.
Washington fell behind early and the first half offensive effort was just flat out offensive for Sprinkle’s Huskies. The UW men’s basketball team just simply could not get the ball in the bucket with any sort of consistency.
And that happens to be a pretty big problem if you’re trying to win a basketball game, by the way. Oh, and it’s worth noting that this wasn’t really a defensive struggle with both teams dominating and shutting down each others’ offense.
Washington found itself trailing the Redhawks 38-23 at halftime.
Washington Huskies men’s basketball team doomed by offensive offense in first half vs. Seattle University Redhawks
The Huskies managed to hit on just one of their 10 three point shots in the first half. Going 1-for-10 from behind the three point line isn’t going to do your favorite basketball team any good. In total, the Huskies only made nine of their 24 first half shots. Even free throw shooting was bad as the Huskies made four of nine free throw attempts.
That’s, uh, a problem.
Now, it’s a problem that, more or less, seemed to go away in the second half. Washington was 5-for-14 from three point range in the second half against Seattle and the Huskies made 15 of 33 shots from the field. From the free throw line, Washington was 12 of 14.
So, generally speaking, much improved all over in the second half. Which feels good, but it wasn’t enough as the Huskies still lost by nine points. This is a game that UW should have won and simply couldn’t. It’s frustrating and games like this will be something we likely look back on and frown about at the end of the season.
