The most recent example of a Washington Husky throwing for at least 3000 yards in a single season also happens to be the most impressive example of a Washington Husky throwing for at least 3000 yards in a single season.

Shoutout to Michael Penix Jr., who led the Huskies in 2023 and absolutely obliterated records time and time again. And in this case, he actually beat some of his own records. Like the single season record for the most passing yards in Washington Husky football history. Penix set the record in 2022 and then beat that record to set it again in 2023.

During the 2023 season, Penix threw for 4903 yards and he officially became the first Washington Husky in history to ever throw for more than 4000 yards in multiple seasons. To go with those nearly 5000 passing yards, Penix also managed to throw 36 touchdowns (against a total of just 11 interceptions) for the Huskies in 2023. He was just absolutely incredible and part of a phenomenal UW football season.

Washington Husky football history: Michael Penix Jr. was playing absolutely otherworldly football in 2023

A few noteworthy games and performances and stats for Penix during the 2023 season that you need to know about if you don’t already:

  • 473 passing yards vs. the Michigan State Spartans
  • 450 passing yards vs. the Boise State Broncos
  • 430 passing yards vs. the Texas Longhorns
  • 409 passing yards vs. the Tulsa Golden Hurricane
  • 369 passing yards vs. the Stanford Cardinal
  • 363 passing yards vs. the Arizona Wildcats
  • 332 passing yards vs. the Utah Utes
  • 319 passing yards vs. the Oregon Ducks (in the final Pac-12 Conference Championship)
  • 304 passing yards vs. the California Golden Bears
  • 302 passing yards vs. the Oregon Ducks (in the regular season)

I used my fingers and toes and counted and that’s 10 games of at least 300 passing yards. That’s an absolutely ridiculous number of games to throw for at least 300 yards against folks. Penix was absolutely remarkable for the Huskies. Truly one of one.
