For the second time in as many seasons, Cody Pickett managed to throw for more than 3000 yards for the Washington Huskies. Now, the sequel wasn’t as good as the original (they rarely are), but Pickett was still exciting and he helped the Huskies get to a 6-6 season. In some cases, you could argue that he was a huge reason the Huskies even got to a half dozen wins that year.

In 2003, Pickett followed up his 4000+ yard season by throwing for 3043 yards. It’s hardly the most impressive total, but it follows the rule of “get past that 3000-yard passing threshold and I’ll talk about you in an article” that he needed to follow.

Congrats, Mr. Pickett. You win the prestigious award of having this article written about your 2003 season.

Like the 2002 season, Pickett wasn’t particularly the most impressive passer ever, but he did his best and seemingly put the Huskies in the best possible position to get a few wins here and there.

Washington Husky football history: Cody Pickett did it again in 2003! Fantastic!

Pickett happened to complete 257 of his 454 pass attempts during the 2003 season and he only threw 15 touchdown passes against the 13 interceptions he tossed during that same 12-game stretch. And while this season wasn’t as exciting as the one that preceded it, it still was solid.

I mean, we really need to acknowledge how this was Pickett’s third-straight season of throwing for 2000 or more yards in a single season and his second-straight season of throwing for 3000 or more yards in a single season.

A few noteworthy stats and games from this year:

  • 290 yards vs. the Indiana Hoosiers
  • 285 yards vs. the Oregon State Beavers
  • 281 yards vs. the UCLA Bruins
  • 255 yards vs. the Ohio State Buckeyes
  • 231 yards vs. the Stanford Cardinal

He was the first AND second Husky to ever throw for 3000 or more yards in a single season. That’s something worth bragging about, if you ask me.
