Look, you really don’t need a ton of introductions to the UCLA Bruins. The Washington Huskies, UW baseball fans, and the Washington Husky baseball team are all pretty familiar with their fellow former PAc-12 members.

But, it’s important to document and go over the Bruins because this is a team that not every Big Ten baseball fan may be overly familiar with and it’s one of the most interesting programs in college baseball. We’re talking about a team that has been playing for over 100 years and has seen some really cool success.

Here’s a glimpse at the UCLA baseball program and a quick look at everything you need to know about the Bruins.

UCLA Bruins overview

Along with the Oregon Ducks, Washington Huskies, and USC Trojans, the UCLA Bruins made the jump from the sinking ship that was the Pac-12 to join the Big Ten. And that might just set up UCLA for even more success in baseball as the Big Ten isn’t quite as good as the Pac-12 was when it comes to this sport.

The Bruins have made it to Omaha on five different occasions, including three times from 2010 to 2013, and it feels like they’re overdue for a bit of a successful stretch again.

  • 5 College World Series appearances (1969, 1997, 2010, 2012, 2013)
  • 2010 College World Series runner-up (lost to South Carolina)
  • 2013 NCAA National Champions (defeated Mississippi State)
  • 25 NCAA Tournament appearances (1969, 1979, 1986, 1987, 1990, 1992, 1993, 1996, 1997, 1999, 2000, 2004, 2006, 2007, 2008, 2010, 2011, 2012, 2013, 2015, 2017, 2018, 2019, 2021, 2022)
  • 7 NCAA Regional Championships (1997, 2000, 2007, 2010, 2012, 2013, 2019)
  • 0 Big Ten Tournament Championships

Hey, would you look at that, all that success and no Big Ten tournament championships (yes, I’m aware they just joined, but facts are facts, friends).

Who is the current head coach of the UCLA Bruins?

John Savage is now in his 21st season of leading the UCLA Bruins and he delivered the program’s best stretch of success from 2010 to 2013 as he guided UCLA to Omaha three times and won the College World Series once during that stretch. He’s managed to put together a 676-463-2 record while with the Bruins, which is pretty good.

Where do the UCLA Bruins play?

Named for one of the greatest baseball players to ever live, Jackie Robinson Stadium in Los Angeles is where the UCLA Bruins play their baseball games. And, yes, in case you weren’t already aware, Jackie Robinson did indeed go to school at UCLA.

When will the Washington Huskies face UCLA baseball in 2025?

The Bruins and Huskies will meet up in mid April for a three game series from April 11 through April 13. The Bruins will host Washington for the series.
