It wasn’t that long ago that the Rutgers Scarlet Knights were considered new to the Big Ten. But these days, teams like the Washington Huskies, Oregon Ducks, UCLA Bruins, and USC Trojans are all much, much newer to the conference.

That said, Rutgers has been playing baseball since 1870. This is a program that has essentially been participating in the sport since colleges started having teams play sports. There’s a lot of history there (though just a .533 win percentage historically).

Here’s what you ned to know about the Rutgers Scarlet Knights baseball program:

Rutgers Scarlet Knights overview

Again, yeah, this is an old, old program with a lot of history. They’ve been in the Big Ten since 2014, so they’re now on their 11th season of Big Ten baseball. Before that, Rutgers played in the Big East and the Atlantic 10 conferences. Overall, all-time, the Scarlet Knights have a record of 2,014-1,761-24, which isn’t bad but it could be better.

  • 15 NCAA Tournament appearances: (1950, 1966, 1968, 1970, 1986, 1988, 1990, 1991, 1993, 1998, 1999, 2000, 2001, 2003, 2007)
  • 1 College World Series appearance (1950)
  • 0 Big Ten Tournament Championships (but three from the Big East and six from the Atlantic 10)

Who is the current head coach of the Rutgers Scarlet Knights?

Steve Owens has been the head coach of the Scarlet Knights baseball team for a half dozen seasons now and he’s done well. He’s winning at a rate that is higher than the historical average, which is always good, as his win-loss record sits at 134-97 (good for a .580 win percentage). Throughout his career, Owens can brag about a 1,049-580-3 overall record. He’s won a lot.

Where do the Rutgers Scarlet Knights play?

If you want to watch some college baseball in Piscataway, New Jersey, just head on over to Bainton Field, where the Scarlet Knights host their home games. The venue is currently capable of holding around 1,500 baseball fans, but future expansions might increase that number.

When will the Washington Huskies face Rutgers baseball in 2025?

Sooner than you might think. The Washington Huskies and Rutgers Scarlet Knights are set to meet up in about a month as the Rutgers baseball team will host UW for a three-game series starting March 28 and going through March 30.
