While the Big Ten baseball scene may not receive the same sort of recognition that is seen in the old Pac-12 or current SEC, it certainly seems plausible that the Washington Huskies will get to contend with some pretty intriguing programs that have sustained steady success over the history of their programs.

Like the Iowa Hawkeyes, for example. Late in the 2025 Washington Husky baseball schedule, UW will get the distinct pleasure of hosting the Hawkeyes, one of the Big Ten’s most consistent programs over the past decade.

Let’s get into everything Washington Husky baseball fans need to know about the Iowa Hawkeyes baseball program as we head into the 2025 college baseball season. Or, well, let’s at least take a quick overview of Iowa.

Iowa Hawkeyes baseball history overview

With Rick Heller at the helm of the Iowa baseball program, the Hawkeyes have consistently been a pretty decent team. There haven’t been many breakthroughs for the Iowa baseball program, but they’ve done a decent job of winning games. While leading the program in Iowa City, Heller has gone 351–211 and 153–104 in conference play.

And throughout their 130 year program history of Hawkeyes baseball, Iowa has managed to accomplish the following:

  • Six NCAA Tournament appearances (1972, 1975, 1990, 2015, 2017, 2023)
  • One College World Series appearance (1972)
  • One Big Ten Tournament Championship (2017)
  • Eight Regular Season Conference Championships (1927, 1938, 1939, 1942, 1949, 1972, 1974, 1990)

Who is the current head coach of the Iowa Hawkeyes?

Going back to Heller for a moment, it’s worth noting his .625 win-loss record that dates back to 2014. He’s managed to lead Iowa to half of the Hawkeyes NCAA Tournament appearances (2015, 2017, 2023) and he’s also responsible for Iowa winning its first ever Big Ten Tournament title back in 2017. He deserves a ton of credit for steadily elevating this program.

Where do the Iowa Hawkeyes play?

Duane Banks Field in Iowa City, Iowa happens to be the home field for the Iowa Hawkeyes baseball team. The field opened its doors back in 1974 and it currently holds around 3,000 fans. Iowa named the field in honor of its former head coach, Duane Banks.

When will the Washington Huskies face Iowa baseball in 2025?

Washington will get the opportunity to meet up with the Iowa Hawkeyes at Husky Ballpark when Iowa comes to Seattle for a three-game series late in the 2025 college baseball season. Washington is slated to meet up with Iowa starting on Friday, May 2 through Sunday, May 4.
