A struggling Washington Huskies team is getting back home after a couple road losses and they’re looking to snap a two-game Big Ten conference matchup losing streak. This week, after recent matchups with folks in the Midwest like the Iowa Hawkeyes and the Indiana Hoosiers, Washington is set to host the USC Trojans at Alaska Airlines Field at Husky Stadium on Saturday.

And while both of these teams bear 4-4 records and both of these teams have just two wins in conference play, it looks like folks tend to believe the Trojans have the upper hand here. Heck, if you were to ask some computers at the worldwide leader in sports about it, they’d probably tell you about the same.

And that’s kinda what I did. I checked the ESPN Analytics Matchup Predictor tool, which is connected to ESPN’s Football Power Index, and the math magic machine isn’t favoring the Huskies at home in this contest.

ESPN FPI prediction puts USC Trojans ahead of Jedd Fisch and the Washington Huskies in matchup in Seattle

It doesn’t matter too much that Washington is playing this game at home. The analytical number crunching machine is putting USC over Washington in this game. Right now, it’s a pretty notable favoriting of USC here. ESPN’s FPI is giving the Trojans a 67.8% chance of victory while the Huskies enter with just a 32.2% probability of winning.

And the Huskies really need to get this win if they want to start salvaging this season. Washington will have one heck of a hard time of making it to a bowl game if the Huskies can’t beat USC this weekend given all that is up ahead for Fisch and UW with the last three games of the year.

A road trip to Penn State, a home game against UCLA, and then a road trip to Oregon. Two national title contenders at the end of the season. Fun!

Washington’s gotta find a way to get its offense going and the Huskies need this win. Otherwise, this season is going to get even more frustrating in a hurry.
