‘Embrace the process of improving’: Jedd Fisch addresses Washington Huskies loss vs Indiana
By Ethan Lee
Saturday afternoon wasn’t much fun for Jedd Fisch and the Washington Huskies football team. Heck, it wasn’t much fun for the folks who spent their time watching the Huskies in hopes that Washington would find a way to get a much-needed road win over the No. 13 team in the country.
Instead, Washington Husky fans got the distinct honor of being able to watch their favorite college football team fall flat on the road and lose to the No. 13 Indiana Hoosiers by a score of 31-17. And while it was just a couple touchdowns that separated these two teams on Saturday, the game felt so drastically different while watching it.
Washington simply struggled too much on offense to keep this game within reach. The Huskies were able to get Jonah Coleman rolling, but with Will Rogers throwing a couple interceptions (including a pick six that helped Indiana in a considerable way early on), there was only so much this offense could do.
And now the Huskies are sitting at 4-4. The chances of making it to a bowl game are getting slimmer and slimmer. Washington desperately needs to find ways to get a couple more wins over the next four games. And it’s also worth pointing out that Fisch is well aware of the need for the Huskies to improve sooner rather than later.
Washington Huskies head coach Jedd Fisch speaks after UW’s deflating road loss vs. Indiana Hoosiers
“You know, we’ve got to continue to build off of every moment we have together,” Fisch explained. “I told our guys [that] you’ve got to divorce the outcome and marry the process.”
That’s an intriguing saying. And yeah, it’s probably worth it for the Huskies to try to move on from this disaster of a game. They showed some potential in a couple areas in this game, but it’s clear that the Huskies aren’t anywhere near where Fisch wants this program to eventually get to.
“Marry the process, marry the moment, and right now we’ve got to sit there and look at what can we continue to do to get better at the moment and embrace the process of improving,” Fisch said.
The head coach of the Huskies continued to get a little poetic as he continued his statement in his postgame press conference.
“Each day we have to find ways to improve each day. We have to find ways to get better and we had a great shot back at home,” Fisch stated. “Three out of our next four foes that we know and have opportunities to play two of them at home.”
The Huskies don’t have much room for error if they want to get to a bowl game. UW has got to win sooner rather than later. And there are going to be plenty of people wanting that to happen.
