When the Washington Huskies hit the road to take on the Minnesota Golden Gophers on Saturday, February 1, they’ll be looking for just their second Big Ten win of their first year in the conference AND their first road win of the season. Beating Minnesota could be a pretty big deal for the Huskies as they try to establish a foundation with the first season under Danny Sprinkle’s leadership in Seattle.
And when Washington takes on the Golden Gophers, the Huskies will absolutely need to find a way to account for Minnesota’s Dawson Garcia, who has been a pretty solid force and leader for the Golden Gophers throughout this season.
Minnesota has struggled throughout much of the year, much like the Washington Huskies have. But as for Garcia, he’s been effective and efficient in his 21 starts for the Golden Gophers this season. And if Sprinkle can’t find a way to get the Huskies to slow Garcia down, Saturday morning’s matchup could end in frustrating fashion.
How will Danny Sprinkle and the Washington Huskies handle Minnesota Golden Gophers star Dawson Garcia?
So far this season, Garcia is averaging just under 20 points per game for the Golden Gophers. It’s not like Minnesota is really all that great in scoring and it’s clear that Garcia is going to be the focal point of their offense and yet he just keeps putting up points.
To go along with those 19.8 points per game that Garcia is scoring, he’s also grabbing 7.3 rebounds per game. He’s just a really well-rounded threat the UW will need to find a way to slow down.
He’s hitting over 37 percent of his three point attempts, is making over 50 percent of his shots from the field, and is shooting 76.2 percent from the free throw line. Washington will have its hands full trying to slow Garcia down in this game.
