Danny Sprinkle is in the midst of another big roster rebuild as his best players are leaving for the NBA or the transfer portal. One player that was just announced in the portal out of Washington will surprise literally zero people, as Desmond Claude left midway through the season. He was gone before the portal even had a chance to open. And whatever drama that wall was all about is now going into the rearview mirror.
The curious case of Desmond Claude will be an interesting one to look back on, or maybe no one does, as it's just a reminder of a strange season full of injuries and problems. However, his transfer news today may actually fully explain what happened.

Desmond Claude has entered the transfer portal from the Washington Huskies
Claude started his career at Xavier and played for two seasons there before transferring to the West Coast and playing one year for USC. He then came to Washington with the goal of becoming a veteran backcourt leader. That never came to fruition because the season was plagued by injuries, losses, and frustration. Claude and Sprinkle never seemed to be on the same page.
Eventually, Claude announced he was too injured to play and would step away from the Huskies for the rest of the season as he recovered. He only played in 12 games. Yet Danny Sprinkle's comments were strange after Claude's announcement. He spent more time talking about the Washington Huskies medical team than Claude. Basically, Sprinkle was saying, they would help him if he needed it.
It smelled of Claude needing a reason to leave the team, or not trusting Sprinkle and Washington, or a variety of other issues. Or maybe an injury he didn't fully want to disclose. It was strange, no matter who you believe or how you slice it. Now he can get a medical redshirt and play one more season.
It's hard to know all the details or what's going on with Claude and the Huskies, but hopefully his next stop allows him to reset his career and give it one final go. However, how this one ended may have left a weird stain.
