As the Washington Huskies try to limit the top contributors on Minnesota’s roster, they’ll need to keep an eye out for Lu’cye Patterson. It’s worth noting that Patterson is far from being the best offensive player on the Golden Gophers roster, but he is pretty versatile, is pretty active, and has played a ton of minutes for the Minnesota men’s basketball team this season.
Clearly, it seems like Patterson is someone that the Golden Gophers trust. And Washington shouldn’t overlook that as they try to get their first road win of the season (and just their second Big Ten win of the season).
Patterson isn’t the most efficient player for the Golden Gophers, but he’s played and started in all 21 games and he’s managed to average a total of 32.5 minutes per game so far. On top of that, Patterson is the third leading scorer on the Golden Gophers’ roster. He plays a key role for this Minnesota basketball team.
How will the Washington Huskies disrupt Minnesota Golden Gophers starter Lu’cye Patterson?
Oh! I almost forgot. And it’s worth pointing out that Patterson is the leading facilitator for the Golden Gophers as he’s managed to dish out a team-leading 75 assists so far this season. That’s not nothing. He’s a key reason why Dawson Garcia and Mike Mitchell Jr. are able to have the sort of offensive scoring success that they are.
And that’s absolutely something the Huskies will need to find a way to disrupt.
Patterson isn’t perfect when it comes to turnovers, but he is averaging 1.5 assists per turnover, which isn’t bad. He’s also making nearly 36 percent of his shots from the field, just over 27 percent of his shots from three point range, and a little over 73 percent of his free throw attempts.
He’s absolutely someone Washington can disrupt, at least in theory. But we’ll see if the Huskies are able to do that when they face the Golden Gophers on Saturday.
