Big Ten women’s basketball standings: Washington really needs to win on the road

Tina Langley and the Washington Huskies basketball team are adjusting to life in the Big Ten and things are, understandably, pretty difficult for the UW women’s basketball team. There’s a ton of talent all over the conference and the Huskies have the unenviable task of traveling pretty far for away games.

Unfortunately for the Huskies, the Washington women’s basketball team will be traveling to take on the Ohio State Buckeyes for their next game. And that Ohio State team happens to be among the best in the Big Ten as well as one of the highest rated teams in the country.

And it’s not like Washington is really doing all that great of a job in games away from home. UW happens to be 10-4 when playing in Alaska Airlines Arena, but the Huskies are 2-3 in true away games and are 1-1 in neutral site matchups.

And that’s just part of why Washington is in the bottom half of the current Big Ten women’s basketball standings. Here’s what those standings look like:

Interestingly enough, the conference currently has two former Pac-12 teams at the very top. Unfortunately, that’d be the UCLA Bruins and the USC Trojans. Washington is a bit further down the rankings.

  • UCLA Bruins (20-0, 8-0)
  • USC Trojans (18-1, 8-0)
  • Ohio State Buckeyes (19-1, 8-1)
  • Michigan State Spartans (17-3, 7-2)
  • Minnesota Golden Gophers (18-3, 6-3)
  • Maryland Terrapins (16-4, 6-3)
  • Nebraska Cornhuskers (15-5, 6-3)
  • Oregon Ducks (15-5, 6-3)
  • Illinois Fighting Illini (15-5, 5-4)
  • Michigan Wolverines (14-6, 5-4)
  • Indiana Hoosiers (13-7, 5-4)
  • Washington Huskies (13-8, 4-5)
  • Iowa Hawkeyes (13-7, 3-6)
  • Wisconsin Badgers (10-10, 1-8)
  • Penn State Nittany Lions (10-11, 1-9)
  • Rutgers Scarlet Knights (9-12, 1-9)
  • Northwestern Wildcats (7-11, 0-7)
  • Purdue Boilermakers (7-13, 0-9)

There are still plenty of opportunities for wins and plenty of chances to get this season salvaged a bit, but UW is 6-4 in its last 10 games and currently on a two-game skid. The Huskies have to find a way to get a few more wins down the stretch of this season.

Thankfully, after that road trip to Columbus to meet up with the Buckeyes, Washington will get to take on the Penn State Nittany Lions and they certainly look beatable right now.
