With the recent dominant wins from the Washington Husky softball team, the Big Ten softball standings are steadily changing in UW’s favor. And that’s a good thing. We’re talking about a team that was very recently struggling. Now, after winning eight of their last 10 games and six in a row, UW is in a pretty solid spot at 12-7 overall on this season.

Following their recent dominant wins over the Howard Bison and the Jackson State Tigers, the Huskies find themselves in the top half of the Big Ten standings.

Now, just a reminder, nobody in the conference has managed to play a conference game yet. We’re strictly talking about how things look due to their overall records. And when it comes to overall records, there are a couple of former Pac-12 teams at the top of the Big Ten right now.

Big Ten softball standings and records, Feb. 28: The Oregon Ducks and UCLA Bruins are neck and neck at the top of their new conference home

The Oregon Ducks currently hold the very top spot in the Big Ten and the UCLA Bruins are not far behind as they have records of 15-1 and 15-3 respectively. From longtime members of the Big Ten softball scene, the Indiana Hoosiers, Iowa Hawkeyes, Nebraska Cornhuskers, and Ohio State Buckeyes are the next four in the standings.

And then there’s our beloved Huskies. Let’s take a look at the Big Ten standings, shall we?

  • Oregon Ducks: 15-1 overall, 0-0 Big Ten
  • UCLA Bruins: 15-3 overall, 0-0 Big Ten
  • Indiana Hoosiers: 10-3 overall, 0-0 Big Ten
  • Iowa Hawkeyes: 10-3 overall, 0-0 Big Ten
  • Nebraska Cornhuskers: 12-4 overall, 0-0 Big Ten

  • Minnesota Golden Gophers: 5-9 overall, 0-0 Big Ten
  • Penn State Nittany Lions: 5-9 overall, 0-0 Big Ten
  • Michigan State Spartans: 4-8 overall, 0-0 Big Ten

Given the level of competition that exists in this conference for softball, that’s a really strong spot for UW to be in right now. The OUTRIGGER Invitational is giving Washington a chance to build momentum and improve its record ahead of conference play. That’s good.
