The Washington Huskies got two, much-needed and absolutely impressive dominant wins Thursday afternoon (evening? Time zones are weird) as they faced off against the Jackson State Tigers and Howard Bison in Hawaii as part of the OUTRIGGER Invitational (I still don’t like or understand why that's all caps, especially for just one word and not both parts of the name).
And man, that feels good to see. The Huskies are building some decent momentum while getting prepared for Big Ten conference play. With the two strong wins in Hawaii, Washington has now won six games in a row and the Huskies have claimed eight of their last 10 contests as wins.
That’s good.
But UW wasn’t the only team playing yesterday. And around the conference, we actually got a few interesting results.
Let’s check those results out.
Big Ten softball scores, results, and recaps - Feb. 27: UCLA taken down by LSU Tigers in impressive pitcher’s duel
Starting with how the UCLA Bruins lost in a high profile matchup against the LSU Tigers. In a fantastic game that was dominated by really strong pitching, UCLA fell short, losing 2-1 as the Tigers were able to grab a crucial victory.
That said, the Bruins did bounce back later in the day as they snagged a solid 7-2 win over the Notre Dame Fighting Irish. That probably felt a little cathartic for the UCLA softball team.
- LSU 2, UCLA 1 (Fullerton, CA)
- Duke 2, Michigan 1 (Durham, NC)
- UCLA 7, Notre Dame 2 (Fullerton, CA)
- Washington 8, Howard 0 (5 innings) (Honolulu, HI)
- Washington 10, Jackson State 0 (6 innings) (Honolulu, HI)
Fret not, UCLA fans, you weren’t the only Big Ten softball team to lose yesterday. Shoutout to the Duke Blue Devils who handed the Michigan Wolverines a close, 2-1 defeat. Yep, we actually got to witness two pitcher’s duels yesterday.
And then there’s the two blowout wins that Wasington recorded. So, an interesting day all around for the Big Ten softball scene.
