Well, barring something unexpected, it doesn’t seem like Vander Ploog will be coming to Seattle to play for Jedd Fisch and the Washington Huskies. Instead, he’s apparently interested in going to Eugene to play for Dan Lanning and the Oregon Ducks.

And that sucks. Losing out on the talented 4-star tight end stinks. A lot.

But, the Huskies aren’t exactly in a doomsday scenario here. As of right now, the Washington Huskies are currently sitting in the top third of the new and improved (is it really improved?) Big Ten in terms of recruiting class rankings. There are 18 teams in this gargantuan conference that spans the width of an entire continent.

And Washington is sitting at No. 6 in the Big Ten at the moment. Right now, the Huskies are currently trailing the Ohio State Buckeyes, Oregon Ducks, USC Trojans, Michigan Wolverines, and Penn State Nittany Lions.

2025 Washington Huskies recruiting class: Where do Huskies rank in Big Ten after Vander Ploog commits to Oregon Ducks?

According to 247 Sports rankings, here’s what the Big Ten looks like as a conference as we get closer and closer to the December 4 Early Signing Period:

  • Ohio State Buckeyes (26 commits)
  • Oregon Ducks (16 commits)
  • USC Trojans (23 commits)
  • Michigan Wolverines (19 commits)
  • Penn State Nittany Lions (26 commits)
  • Washington Huskies (26 commits)
  • Maryland Terrapins (23 commits)
  • Rutgers Scarlet Knights (27 commits)
  • Nebraska Cornhuskers (19 commits)
  • Wisconsin Badgers (23 commits)
  • UCLA Bruins (18 commits)
  • Iowa Hawkeyes (15 commits)
  • Minnesota Golden Gophers (22 commits)
  • Indiana Hoosiers (20 commits)
  • Illinois Fighting Illini (17 commits)
  • Michigan State Spartans (15 commits)
  • Northwestern Wildcats (18 commits)
  • Purdue Boilermakers (11 commits)

Obviously it would be great if Washington were higher here, but that’s not a bad spot for the Huskies to be in. Jedd Fisch and his staff have put a solid class together, all things considered. And given how they’re trying to build the program, it’s encouraging to see how many recruits they’ve got committed at the moment.

Fisch and the Huskies coaching staff had to assemble a roster in a hurry this past offseason. They’ve had a bit more time to do some focused recruiting for this cycle. And if Washington can close out strong, this class will look pretty solid.
