In his third season with the Oregon Ducks (and their first season in the Big Ten), Dan Lanning has his Oregon football team competing at a national title level. The Ducks are aiming to contend for a national championship this season and they likely want to be able to do that for the foreseeable future.
In many ways, it really feels like Lanning has elevated the Ducks from being a nationally relevant program into one that is on the cusp of being able to compete for championships for the foreseeable future with the way that he’s recruited and assembled his team’s roster in Eugene.
As the head coach of Oregon, Lanning has managed to win 33 games in just three seasons (and his third season isn’t done just yet). It’d make a ton of sense for a program that has a ton of money floating around it to pay that caliber of coach at a very high level.
And if you’re thinking that Lanning is paid a lot of money (and is still arguably underpaid based on market value), then you might just be right.
Dan Lanning salary: How much does the Oregon Ducks head coach make in 2024?
Lanning is one of the highest paid coaches in the country. In the Big Ten, he’s the third-highest paid coach. Oregon is pretty committed to making sure that he’s well compensated for his success and work in Eugene.
At $8.2 million, Lanning very clearly makes a lot of money. When compared to his contemporaries in the Big Ten with publicly disclosed salaries, Lanning is behind just USC Trojans head coach Lincoln Riley and Ohio State Buckeyes head coach Ryan Day.
Oregon is clearly committed to winning at a high level and they’re paying their head coach a ton of money. If he continues to win at the level that he is right now, then expect that amount of money to continue to climb.
