Let’s look at things objectively for a brief moment, shall we? Can we please just look at things without fan bias for a moment? Because, objectively speaking, the Ohio State Buckeyes have seen a ton of success under Ohio State Buckeyes head coach Ryan Day.
Now, please don’t hate me for pointing that out. Because I’m also going to point out how Day hasn’t won a championship with a program that was perfectly assembled to win a championship. The Ohio State Buckeyes have actually probably underachieved with Day leading them. And it’s also worth noting how Ohio State has been unable to beat the Michigan Wolverines in each of their past four matchups.
That’s right, we’re now looking at a notable four-game winning streak for Michigan in one of the biggest and most intense rivalries in all of college football.
None of that is going to sit well with Ohio State Buckeyes fans. Especially the fact that Michigan, who is in a rebuilding season, was able to shut down what is arguably the most talented offense in all of college football in their rivalry matchup.
That’s not going to bode well for Day and his Ohio State coaching staff. But can the Buckeyes reasonably get rid of their head coach?
What is Ohio State Buckeyes head coach Ryan Day’s buyout in 2024?
Day has a nice little insurance policy working for him that will make it difficult for the Buckeyes to actually fire him. Unless Ohio State is willing to spend an absurd amount of money to get rid of their head coach, that is.
Right now, Day’s buyout is sizable. And on December 1, 2024, that buyout will sit at $37.27 million. Are Ohio State Buckeyes fans willing to stomach paying that sort of sum to get rid of a coach who is objectively speaking pretty successful but is still underachieving based on program expectations?
