Look, nobody ever said that the move from the Pac-12 to the Big Ten would mean an abundance of immediate success for the Washington Husky men’s basketball program. It’s more than clear that UW is struggling to find footing in the newly expanded Big Ten. Life here is challenging. There’s a ton of men’s basketball talent all over the place.

Unfortunately for Washington Husky basketball fans, Danny Sprinkle and the UW men’s basketball team are at the very bottom of the conference standings with a 4-13 conference record. There are a few things to feel a little excited about, like the 9-7 home record on the season.

Remaining competitive at home in the midst of a rough year is something to take a little pride in, I suppose. But really, this is a rebuilding year. And these struggles were somewhat expected. It’s just still a little frustrating to see.

Especially when some of the other West Coast additions to the Big Ten are having a bit of success. UCLA is 11-6 in Big Ten play while the Oregon Ducks are 9-8 against conference foes. The USC Trojans are a bit better than UW right now with a 6-10 conference record.

Big Ten men’s basketball standings, Feb. 26: Washington Huskies firmly in last place after frustrating loss vs. Wisconsin Badgers

Right now, the conference is being run by the longtime, Midwest members of the Big Ten. Which, you know, really shouldn’t shock anyone.

Here’s what the Big Ten standings look like right now after UW’s latest loss.

  • Michigan Wolverines: 13-3 (21-6)
  • Michigan State Spartans: 13-3 (22-5)
  • Wisconsin Badgers: 12-5 (22-6)
  • Maryland Terrapins: 11-5 (21-6)
  • Purdue Boilermakers: 11-6 (19-9)
  • UCLA Bruins: 11-6 (20-8)
  • Illinois Fighting Illini: 10-8 (18-11)
  • Oregon Ducks: 9-8 (20-8)
  • Indiana Hoosiers: 7-9 (16-11)
  • Nebraska Cornhuskers: 7-10 (17-11)
  • Ohio State Buckeyes: 7-10 (15-13)
  • Rutgers Scarlet Knights: 7-10 (14-14)
  • USC Trojans: 6-10 (14-13)
  • Iowa Hawkeyes: 6-11 (15-13)
  • Minnesota Golden Gophers: 6-11 (14-14)
  • Northwestern Wildcats: 6-11 (15-13)
  • Penn State Nittany Lions: 5-12 (15-13)
  • Washington Huskies: 4-13 (13-15)

We’ll see if the Huskies can get any wins down the stretch. It doesn’t seem likely, but it’s theoretically plausible, I suppose. It’d be nice to see UW spoil someone’s season a bit. So here’s to hoping that happens.
