Eddie Smith and the Washington Huskies have a brief bit of momentum and UW is hitting the road for a three-game conference series against a Big Ten team that isn’t exactly all that much better than the Washington Husky baseball team (at least in terms of overall record, that is).

The Huskies, currently holding the No. 16 spot in the Big Ten baseball standings with a 5-8 overall record, have won their last two games and are gearing up to take on the Nebraska Cornhuskers, who are sitting in the No. 15 spot in the Big Ten with a 4-6 overall record.

If the Huskies are going to make a statement in the Big Ten this season, then Smith and UW will need to take advantage of opportunities like this. Unfortunately, Washington is just 1-5 in road games this season (a record that does actually look a bit worse than it probably actually is because of the fact that four of those losses came against the Stanford Cardinal, a good team).

Washington and Nebraska are near the bottom of the Big Ten. Let’s take a look at the teams at the top of the Big Ten conference baseball standings.

Big Ten baseball standings and records, March 6, 2025: Washington Huskies headed to Lincoln to take on Nebraska Cornhuskers

The Purdue Boilermakers are no longer unbeaten, but at 12-1 overall, they look like the best team in the conference at the moment. And that’s fun to think about, to be completely honest. Penn State comes in just behind them at 9-1 and then the Oregon Ducks have an 11-2 record to claim the No. 3 spot in the conference standings.

Here’s what they look like right now:

  • Purdue Boilermakers: 12-1 overall, 0-0 Big Ten
  • Penn State Nittany Lions: 9-1 overall, 0-0 Big Ten
  • Oregon Ducks: 11-2 overall, 0-0 Big Ten
  • Michigan State Spartans: 9-2 overall, 0-0 Big Ten
  • UCLA Bruins: 10-3 overall, 0-0 Big Ten
  • USC Trojans: 9-3 overall, 0-0 Big Ten
  • Illinois Fighting Illini: 6-4 overall, 0-0 Big Ten
  • Maryland Terrapins: 7-5 overall, 0-0 Big Ten
  • Michigan Wolverines: 6-5 overall, 0-0 Big Ten
  • Minnesota Golden Gophers: 5-5 overall, 0-0 Big Ten
  • Northwestern Wildcats: 5-5 overall, 0-0 Big Ten
  • Indiana Hoosiers: 6-7 overall, 0-0 Big Ten
  • Iowa Hawkeyes: 5-6 overall, 0-0 Big Ten
  • Rutgers Scarlet Knights: 5-7 overall, 0-0 Big Ten
  • Nebraska Cornhuskers: 4-6 overall, 0-0 Big Ten
  • Washington Huskies: 5-8 overall, 0-0 Big Ten
  • Ohio State Buckeyes: 2-8 overall, 0-0 Big Ten

It’s interesting to see the way that some teams have really separated themselves from the rest of the pack. Like Purdue, Penn State, Oregon, Michigan State, UCLA, and USC, for example. They’re at the top and they’re looking pretty good.

Or, take Ohio State for example. They’re the exact opposite of good right now. And they’re currently pretty far off from the rest of the Big Ten at 2-8 on the season.

But between those two groupings? Well, a lot of folks with some pretty similar records, to be completely honest. And that’s what makes this particular road series pretty interesting. UW really needs to make a statement in Lincoln.
