Look, I’m not a mathematics wizard. Stats aren’t fun. Well, I say that. I enjoy going through stats and looking at numbers, but I’m not someone that can just absorb all of the info with immediate ease. It takes me a little bit of time.
But, if I’m doing my hypothetical mental math right, an unlikely win for Eddie Smith and the Washington Husky baseball team could theoretically bump the UW Dawgs out of the second to last spot in the current Big Ten baseball standings.
Of course, UW would have to beat the Texas Longhorns. So, uh, we’ll see if that actually happens. Let’s take a look at the Big Ten standings as they stand ahead of the 18 games that’ll be played in the Big Ten today.
Big Ten baseball standings and records, Feb. 28: The Purdue Boilermakers still hold the top spot in the conference
I have absolutely no clue how long it’ll last, but I absolutely love that the Purdue baseball team currently has the best record in the Big Ten. I would love to see that continue to play out given the historic struggles that Boilermaker baseball has.
I’m a sucker for the underdogs, you know?
- Purdue Boilermakers: 8-0 overall, 0-0 Big Ten
- USC Trojans: 7-1 overall, 0-0 Big Ten
- Michigan State Spartans: 6-1 overall, 0-0 Big Ten
- Penn State Nittany Lions: 5-1 overall, 0-0 Big Ten
- UCLA Bruins: 7-2 overall, 0-0 Big Ten
- Oregon Ducks: 6-2 overall, 0-0 Big Ten
- Illinois Fighting Illini: 5-2 overall, 0-0 Big Ten
- Northwestern Wildcats: 5-2 overall, 0-0 Big Ten
- Michigan Wolverines: 4-3 overall, 0-0 Big Ten
- Rutgers Scarlet Knights: 4-4 overall, 0-0 Big Ten
- Iowa Hawkeyes: 3-4 overall, 0-0 Big Ten
- Maryland Terrapins: 3-4 overall, 0-0 Big Ten
- Nebraska Cornhuskers: 3-4 overall, 0-0 Big Ten
- Indiana Hoosiers: 3-5 overall, 0-0 Big Ten
- Minnesota Golden Gophers: 2-4 overall, 0-0 Big Ten
- Washington Huskies: 3-6 overall, 0-0 Big Ten
- Ohio State Buckeyes: 1-5 overall, 0-0 Big Ten
If the Huskies are able to somehow, some way upend the Longhorns today, they’ve likely move out of second to last place in the Big Ten standings given that Minnesota will be facing Arizona State and other teams could lose as well. So, let’s hope for that. A Washington win along with other teams falling short.
Just not Purdue. I, for one, would love to see Purdue continue to thrive (for wholesome reasons but also because I don’t want the USC Trojans to have the top spot in the Big Ten right now).
