The 2025 NCAA baseball season got off to an interesting start for the Big Ten. I’ve talked a bit about how the conference isn’t exactly known for baseball, but that there were still some opportunities to make a statement or two to get the season started. Well, thankfully the Washington Huskies were among the teams that got off to a great start.
As the expanded, coast-to-coast version of the Big Ten got its 2025 college baseball season going, we got to see some interesting wins. Such as the aforementioned emphatic win for the Washington Husky baseball team to start the Eddie Smith era with a 9-2 beating of a Kansas State team that made the NCAA baseball tournament a season ago.
Or, even more impressive than UW’s win in Conway, South Carolina, the Michigan Wolverines managed to beat out the No. 2 Virginia Cavaliers by a score of 5-4 in 11 innings. That’s a really strong statement for this conference.
Oh! And it’s worth noting that Penn State absolutely smothered the Missouri Tigers as the Nittany Lions won 10-0 in Puerto Rico.
Big ten baseball schedule, results: Washington Husky baseball starts season strong with dominant win vs. Kansas State Wildcats
Let’s take a quick look at all of the games the Big Ten competed in on Friday, February 14. Here’s a look at all of the scores.

Evening Games:

- Rutgers 3, Kennesaw State 1 (Game 2) (Marietta, GA)
- South Florida 5, Iowa 4 (Tampa, FL)

- Long Beach State 17, Northwestern 5 (Long Beach, CA) (Still in progress at time of writing)
- USC 14, George Washington 1 (Los Angeles, CA) (Still in progress at time of writing)
There’s a lot to celebrate all throughout that. And then there are some less-than-ideal results for the Big Ten. Rutgers losing to Kennesaw State isn’t great. Illinois falling short against Abilene Christian is just unimpressive. UC Irvine beating up on the Nebraska Cornhuskers? Not exactly what you want to see. Oh, and you can’t forget Iowa losing to South Florida or UNLV beating Indiana.
But as a whole, this is a decent start to the season for the Big Ten. And it’s a great start to the Big Ten era for Washington Husky baseball.
