Right now, the Atlanta Falcons are struggling and it’s largely because of the play of starting quarterback Kirk Cousins. Right now, they’re in a bit of a quarterback controversy as the Falcons, for some reason, decided to spend a lot of money on the aforementioned Cousins while also still drafting former Washington Huskies quarterback Michael Penix Jr.
It’s weird for a number of reasons, but largely because Penix isn’t exactly the youngest quarterback from that draft class and also because the former Husky quarterback isn’t really being given a chance to start while Cousins is tossing picks left and right.
In the past four games (all of which have been losses for the Falcons, by the way), Cousins has managed to throw eight interceptions. If you happen to think that’s a recipe for disaster, you’d be right.
Atlanta isn’t having any fun. Their fans aren’t having any fun. The situation isn’t great!
And it’s something that has media members who cover the NFL chatting about the situation.
Atlanta Falcons struggling with Kirk Cousins, criticized by media members for not playing former Washington Husky QB Michael Penix Jr.
FanSided's very own John Buhler sure seems to be having a miserable time watching Atlanta and Cousins stumble around and lose in frustrating ways!
We’ve got local media in the Atlanta area obviously questioning the decision for the Falcons to not at least try something different at quarterback.
We’ve got Emmanuel Acho, now a commentator for FOX Sports (and also a former linebacker for a few different NFL teams) speaking out and he's absolutely right. Why draft Penix if you aren't going to trust him?
Heck, we’ve even got Dov Kleiman, who shares a bunch of different aggregated content and news across X with the seeming intention of garnering reactions and engagement, weighing in on this.
While Cory isn’t technically a media member, he has a sizable following and is in charge of an organization that tracks all sorts of data and analytics connected to college football and NFL players. So, you know, seems relevant. His opinion certainly matters a ton here. And he's proposing a pretty measured manner of getting Penix some playing time.
Yeah, the Falcons could have played this all pretty differently. And they didn’t. And now they’re looking less-than-stellar because of it. What would it hurt to try something different and trust Penix here?
