Don’t overlook bowl games around Jedd Fisch. The head coach of the Washington Huskies isn’t big on people believing that these games don’t matter. According to Fisch, these games are important opportunities for the athletes that get a shot to compete in them.
The modern narrative that these games don’t matter doesn’t sit well with the head coach of the Huskies.
“I don't like the fact that people don't give credit to bowl games,” Fisch said in a press conference. “I think bowl games are exactly what they were, and people have decided not to make them that.”
To be completely honest, that’s a refreshing thing to hear. As someone who deeply appreciates the college football bowl season (and all of the quirks and intricacies that can be found within it), it’s great to hear that Fisch is also a fan of these opportunities.
“These are opportunities for players to play in a postseason game,” Fisch explained. “There are opportunities for players who gave a ton of blood, sweat, and tears in spring ball, in training camp, in the season, during 6 AM workouts, lifting all throughout November-December, to be able to play in a game.”
And to be completely honest, this is also an opportunity for a first year head coach to continue to develop a team that is working on a rebuild. The Huskies will be looking to build some momentum heading into the offseason and this is a great opportunity to do just that.

This game can be a pretty big deal for the Huskies as they continue to work on establishing a team culture following all of the changes that have taken place on Montlake over the past 12 months.
“For some reason, recently, we've decided that they're not as important, and I don't agree,” Fisch said. “I don't think it matters if you've won six and you're 6-6 or if you've won nine and you're 9-3. If you have a chance to go play in a bowl game, it should be a championship mentality, a championship opportunity.”
Which, you know, that’s great to hear. It’d be nice if the Huskies had a few more wins heading into this bowl game, but this game still matters and it’s an opportunity to tack another win onto Washington’s resume for this season.
