Look, we’re a few months out from it really and truly getting under way, but the start of the 2025 Washington Huskies football season will be here before you know it. The second season of the Washington Huskies competing in the Big Ten and playing for Jedd Fisch will get here soon enough.
And in this next season of Washington football, Fisch and the Huskies will be looking to build upon the 6-7 season they had during the weird, topsy-turvy transitional year of 2024. Washington will be aiming to establish itself as a true competitor in its new conference.
To do that, UW will need to take on a few different foes and compete a lot more closely than they did a season ago.
The home slate of seven games features visits from the likes of the Ohio State Buckeyes, Rutgers Scarlet Knights (who will be better than many expect), the Illinois Fighting Illini (fresh off a 10-win season), Purdue Boilermakers, and Oregon Ducks.
Meanwhile, the Huskies will be taking road trips to the Michigan Wolverines, Wisconsin Badgers, Maryland Terrapins, and UCLA Bruins. Oh, and there’s an Apple Cup road trip happening as well. Can’t forget about that.
5 most intriguing games on the 2025 Washington Husky football schedule
There are plenty of potentially intriguing games. Here are the five I’m most fascinated by this coming season.
No. 5: November 8: at Wisconsin (Away)
Look, I don’t think the Wisconsin Badgers will suddenly be drastically better than what they were a season ago despite the departure from the Air Raid offense that never really fit what fans wanted from that program.
But, Camp Randall is one of the most iconic venues in all of college football, both of these teams are working to prove their worth and elevate themselves, and it’s a battle of the UWs. I can get on board with this one getting weird. After all, it’s a November game in Wisconsin, the weather could get messy and that venue gets loud, just ask the Oregon Ducks.
No. 4: October 25: Illinois (Home)
This one intrigues me because Bret Bielema and the Illinois Fighting Illini were sneakily one of the best teams in the Big Ten last season. This is a team that used its defense and its ground attack to win 10 games. Thankfully, this game will be in Husky Stadium. Unfortunately, Washington will get this sort of physical challenge a week after meeting up with the Michigan Wolverines in Ann Arbor.
No. 3: October 18: at Michigan (Away)
Speaking of the Michigan Wolverines, taking a trip to the Big House (another iconic, loud football stadium) can always be interesting. Also, this is a Michigan team that managed to stymie the Ohio State Buckeyes thrilling offense and bludgeoned the Alabama Crimson Tide in their bowl game. Michigan could be pretty good next season.
Also, I’m here for something of a new rivalry developing here. Michigan was unable to beat UW last season and it was fun to see the Huskies get a bit of revenge. I, for one, would love to see another Washington win over the Wolverines sooner rather than later.
No. 2: November 29: Oregon (Home)
I don’t know that I need to explain this one. It’s a rivalry game, plain and simple. Moving it to the end of the regular season helps ensure that this game gets a bit more attention as it takes place during the conventional rivalry week now.
And of course, Washington wasn’t able to really compete with an Oregon team that was talented enough to win a national title this past season. Here’s to hoping that changes when the Ducks come to Husky Stadium in late November.
No. 1: September 27: Ohio State (Home)
Oh, hey, look at that. For the second straight season, the defending national champions will be competing against the Washington Huskies in Seattle. The Ohio State Buckeyes, fresh off a national championship run that included humbling the extremely talented Oregon Ducks in the College Football Playoffs, will be in Seattle for this one. And it’s early in the season. UW has a chance to really make a name for itself in the Big Ten pecking order if the Huskies can pull off this upset at home.
