14.3 percent: Three point shooting couldn’t have been much worse for the Washington Huskies
Bad shooting nights happen. Bad games happen. But man, this one hurts. Washington really couldn’t do much damage from behind the three-point line and it feels like this could be a big problem if this sort of three point shooting performance happens to be a more regular sort of event.
Washington managed to hit on just 14.3 percent of its shots from behind the arc. How does that translate over to raw numbers? Well, Washington made TWO of 14 three point shots. That’s worrisome. It’s alarming. It’s flat out not good.
And it’s a huge reason as to why the Huskies lost this one.
Sayvia Sellers and Elle Ladine each made a three point shot. Sellers happened to be just 1-for-3 from behind the arc. Meanwhile, Ladine struggled to hit consistently and she had a bad afternoon as she went just 1-for-7 from beind the three-line.
Ladine does deserve some credit in that she kept shooting. But, the Huskies might need to start adjusting their offensive strategy a bit if they aren’t going to be able to consistently knock down shots from deep. And if that element of the offense is indeed missing, then opposing teams (especially those in the Big Ten), will scheme around it to take advantage of that and other possible vulnerabilities.
