10 points: Second chance points just didn’t happen for the Huskies on Sunday
Not only did the Huskies have problems when it came to rebounding in general (Montana managed to out rebound Washington by a margin of 44 to 33, which seems very noteworthy here), but Washington was also unable to really translate a lot of those rebounds into points on the scoreboard.
And that seems like a bit of a problem if you’re going to try winning college basketball games, if you ask me.
Washington did manage to grab 18 offensive rebounds (I’m generally not used to seeing a team get more offensive boards than defensive rebounds, so this is kind of odd for me), but the Huskies couldn’t get more than just 10 second chance points.
That’s not very efficient.
To further illustrate how inefficient that happens to be for the Huskies, let’s take a look at how Montana grabbed just nine offensive rebounds, but had 12 second chance points. Literally half the number of offensive rebounds and two more second chance points.
Not great!
That does not bode well for a team that is looking to create headaches for other teams in the Big Ten this season. All this sort of showing does is create headaches for UW stakeholders. Folks like you and me who are rooting for Washington on a regular basis. We don’t deserve these headaches. Opposing teams and their fans do.
So, Washington, how do we fix that?
