Sunday afternoon, the Washington Huskies women’s basketball team suffered a pretty notable setback. The Huskies just simply could not keep up with the likes of a previously unimpressive Montana team that had gotten off to a 1-2 start on the season.

Regardless of the records entering the game, the Huskies were unable to keep up with the Grizzlies while playing inside Dahlberg Arena in Missoula on Sunday.

And that’s a problem. Washington probably shouldn’t be struggling with the likes of a Big Sky team that was previously off to an abysmal start to the season. Washington also probably shouldn’t be losing by double digits against a team like Montana.

And yet, here we are. That’s exactly what happened.

Washington Huskies women's basketball team suffers humbling loss on the road against Montana Grizzlies

Washington got off to an awful start, fell behind by 12 points in the first quarter, and simply played from behind for way too much of this game. Only scoring 10 points in the first quarter is something to be concerned about.

But it’s not the only thing to worry about. There were plenty of other metrics that made it clear that Washington wasn’t playing great basketball.

Let’s go over three alarming stats from Washington’s 14-point road loss against Montana. I’ll go ahead and spoil things for you a little bit: these stats are, uh, not great. They definitely point to some areas Washington needs to address sooner rather than later if this season is going to be a successful one.
