The Apple Cup wasn’t exactly what anyone really wanted, right? I mean, minus the Washington State fans out there, that is. Jedd Fisch, the Washington Huskies football team, and UW football fans certainly weren’t thrilled with the outcome of the 2024 Apple Cup. I suppose there are some bitter Arizona fans out there that may have enjoyed the result, but really, that’s about it, I think.
Maybe I’m wrong there, but it kinda sucked seeing the Huskies, with a first year head coach and a ton of new faces all over the UW football roster, come close and fall short against Washington State in a neutral site game in Seattle.
While this coming season’s Apple Cup won’t be in Seattle, it will be interesting to see how it plays out given that Wazzu will be breaking in a brand new head coach and a roster that features a ton of new faces this season.
When will the Washington Huskies face off against the Washington State Cougars during the 2025 college football season?
Conference realignment has shifted this rivalry from being at the end of the regular season to an early season non-conference matchup and that’s what the Apple Cup will be once again this year. Washington and Washington State will meet up on September 20, 2025 in Pullman.
Interestingly enough, Washington will get a bye week right before meeting up with the Cougars. UW will rest in week three after playing the likes of the Colorado State Rams and UC Davis to get the 2025 Washington Husky football season started.
And then they’ll face off against Wazzu.
The timing is odd, the timing of the bye week is weird, but at least we get a historic college football rivalry preserved. A lot of things have changed recently (for both of these football programs), but thankfully the Apple Cup will still be played. And here’s to hoping that Washington comes out on top of this one.
