Well, the first half of the 2024 Sun Bowl has been pretty intriguing. So far, it really seems like the Washington Huskies and Louisville Cardinals are pretty evenly matched through the first couple of quarters in El Paso.
The Cardinals and Huskies are tied up at 21-21 and there have been several things that have worked out in UW’s favor (and several things that have just been absolutely frustrating to see). With the way Washington is playing, Jedd Fisch and the Huskies really should have a shot at getting a win to cap off the season.
But, well, there’s a good chance that Louisville comes out on top in the 2024 Sun Bowl. It could go either way. These teams have done well in trading scores and matching well against each other.
I’ve got a few thoughts. Based on what I’m seeing on social media, y’all have a bunch of thoughts as well. Here are three thoughts from the first half of the Sun Bowl between the Washington Huskies and the Louisville Cardinals.
Washington Huskies vs. Louisville Cardinals: 3 thoughts on the first half
- Demond Williams Jr. is absolutely impacting this game in so many ways. The future of the Washington Huskies offense looks bright. So far, Williams has been responsible for all three of UW’s scores (and unfortunately, one of Louisville’s as he threw a pick six to start the game). Williams completed 8 of 11 passes for 162 yards and two touchdowns while also running for 36 yards and another touchdown.
- I love how Giles Jackson is thriving against Louisville’s pass defense in this game. The senior receiver for the Huskies has been phenomenal as he’s torched the Cardinals’ secondary for two different touchdown receptions of over 40 yards against Louisville’s defense. The Huskies have needed Jackson to deliver those big plays as they try to keep up with the Cardinals’ fast and explosive offense.
- Washington is struggling to slow Louisville’s strong rushing attack and I, for one, am worried that might be a problem as the game wears on. Louisville has been grinding things out and gained 110 rushing yards in the first half alone. I figured they’d be running the ball a lot given how their roster changed a bit due to bowl game opt outs, but this is just flat out impressive.
And now onto the second half. It’ll be fascinating to see how the Huskies try to take down the Cardinals in a game that has been close and full of explosive plays.
