Gear up for Washington in the College Football Playoff
The Washington Huskies are coming off a Pac-12 Championship Game win over the Oregon Ducks and now prepare for the College Football Playoff.
The last time the Huskies won the Pac-12 was 2018 and the defense was the standout factor. They showcased their dominance by holding the Utah Utes to only three points, but only scored 10 themselves.
Fast forward to 2023 and things are very different. Washington has a potential Heisman Trophy winner at quarterback and averages nearly 38 points per game.
This marks the Huskies’ second appearance in the playoff.
In 2016, the Huskies had an impressive season under head coach Chris Petersen, finishing with a record of 12-1. They won the Pac-12 Championship and secured their spot in the CFP as the number four seed. Their only loss of the season came against the USC Trojans.
In the CFP semifinal, the Washington Huskies faced off against the top-seeded Alabama Crimson Tide on December 31, 2016, in the Peach Bowl. Despite their best efforts, the Huskies were unable to come away with a victory, falling to the Crimson Tide with a final score of 24-7.
While the Huskies did not advance to the National Championship game that year, their appearance in the College Football Playoff marked a significant achievement for the program. It showcased the team’s ability to compete at the highest level of college football – the team has won 71 games since 2016.
