In the first half between the No. 5 Washington Huskies and the No. 11 Oregon State Beavers, it was No. 1 that was most important. Rome Odunze and Jabbar Muhammad led the Huskies to a 22-10 first-half lead.
Odunze was a dominant force on offense catching five passes for 79 yards and two touchdowns. He’s Michael Penix Jr.’s favorite receiver and at 6-foot-3 215 pounds, he had his elite agility and NFL size on display.
Odunze was a surgical route-runner in the red zone and the terrifying deep threat that has given Pac-12 defensive coordinators nightmares for the past two seasons. Odunze came into the game with 59 catches for 1,1000 yards and nine touchdowns with an average of 18.6 per reception.
Oregon State had no answer for Odunze, but on offense the Beavers struggled because of Washington’s other No. 1, Muhammad.
The junior cornerback had three pass breakups and an interception in the first half. Then added another pick to start second half and set up Washington to extend its lead. However, the Huskies missed a field goal to keep the lead at 22-10.
On the season, Washington’s defense has been a big issue, but the Oklahoma State transfer, Muhammad had four pass breakups and on interception. He’s basically had a career year in terms of playmaking, in one night.
There is still a lot of game left, but No. 1 on both sides of the ball have been the best players on the field tonight. Washington looks to be on its way to its 11th win of the season and could climb closer to No. 1 in the College Football Playoff rankings with a win.
