The game time for Washington football’s matchup against Stanford was announced as 4 PM PT on Saturday, October 28.

This will be Washington football’s first trip to California this season. They will return in Week 10 to face USC in what is a highly anticipated matchup between two teams with a quarterback in the race for the Heisman Trophy.

The series between the Huskies and the Cardinal is a close one with Washington holding a one-game lead.

Last season, the Huskies faced the Cardinal at home in a 40-22 victory. Michael Penix Jr. threw for 309 yards and two touchdowns. Running back Wayne Taulapapa rushed for 120 yards on 13 carries for one touchdown. It also marked the beginning of the Rome Odunze supremacy era as it was his first game with over 100 receiving yards.

This season is Stanford’s first under new head coach Troy Taylor. Taylor came over from Sacramento State where he went 12-1 in 2022 and 30-8 in three seasons with the team. Taylor hasn’t been able to translate this same success to Stanford yet. Stanford is 2-5 and has only beaten Colorado 46-43 and Hawaii 37-24. They don’t do well against ranked teams and have trouble maintaining possession on offense.

The game against Arizona State should have been an easy one for the Huskies and their high-powered offense but the game ended at a too close 15-7, all thanks to the defense. The Huskies can’t afford another close matchup this week against Stanford. If their offense stalls out again, they could be at risk of dropping in the AP Top 25 rankings, where they currently sit at No. 5.
