Washington football odds and prediction for Week 4

Big Threats

Washington’s biggest threat for Cal is easily quarterback Michael Penix Jr. He is the nation’s leading passer with 1,332 yards and 12 touchdowns through three games. He has been unstoppable for the Huskies and it’s really hard to see any future outcome this season where that changes. Right now Penix is averaging 12.23 yards per pass attempt. he has one interception on the season but that was arguably because of miscommunication between him and his receiver.

As for Cal, their biggest threat in this Week 4 game is running back Jadyn Ott. Ott was taken out of the Cal’s Week 2 match-up versus Auburn and missed the entire game against Idaho that following week. Ott is expected to be back as the starting running back for the Golden Bears this week. In the two games that he has played, Ott has rushed for 268 yards and three touchdowns. In 12 games as a true freshman in 2022, he had a total of 897 yards, eight rushing touchdowns, and three receiving touchdowns.

Prediction

The Huskies have the best passing offense in all of college football and I don’t expect Cal to be the first opponent to put a stop to that. Cal is currently ranked 34th in the FBS in pass defense and they are allowing 6.25 yards per attempt and nearly 11 yards per completion.

Last year the match-up between these two was close with Washington taking the win on the road 28-21. However, Washington football’s offense has improved so much since last season they are a serious force to be reckoned with.

I pick the Huskies favored at -20.5 and am going with the under (59.5). My final score prediction for the game is Washington 48, Cal 20.
