From the very start, the Huskies asserted their superiority, as expected. Quarterback Michael Penix Jr. orchestrated an impressive opening drive, culminating in a 2-yard touchdown pass to Rome Odunze, giving Washington an early 7-0 lead. Tulsa responded with a field goal, narrowing the gap to 7-3, but the Huskies quickly regained momentum. Penix’s 34-yard pass to Ja’Lynn Polk on a clever 27-yard reverse play led to another touchdown, ending the first quarter with a 14-3 advantage.

The second quarter saw a resilient Huskies defense denying Tulsa on a crucial 4th down attempt. However, the Huskies’ offense faced challenges, with an intercepted pass and a series of drops and fumbles. Despite these setbacks, Washington maintained their lead.

In the third quarter, the Huskies continued their dominance. Germie Bernard marked his first touchdown as a Husky, and the offensive trio of Rome Odunze, Jalen McMillan, and Ja’Lynn Polk, along with Bernard, all found the end zone. On the defensive front, a sack and pass breakups demonstrated Washington’s prowess.

As the game entered its final quarter, the Huskies continued to control the game. Even with several backups on the field, Washington remained resolute. Tulsa managed to break through for a touchdown in the final minutes, but the Huskies quickly responded with big plays from Bernard and a rushing touchdown by Daniyel Ngata.

In the end, the Washington football program showcased a well-rounded performance, despite a few combining an explosive offense with a resilient defense. Next week they will head to East Lanning, Michigan to take on the Michigan State Spartans in their first away game of the season.
