Washington football will remain at home in Week 2 to face the Tulsa Golden Hurricanes in their first ever matchup. Both teams are entering the game with victorious Week 1 performances, setting the stage for a fun competitive encounter.

Who will move to 2-0?

Scouting Washington football Week 2 opponent: Tulsa

Tulsa’s Week 1 recap

The Huskies didn’t get off to a great start last week against Boise State but Tulsa had an even worse start against Arkansas-Pine Bluff. The team suffered three turnovers within the first six minutes of the game and lost their starting quarterback to an injury. However, they quickly turned things around in the second quarter after being down 0-7 and scored four touchdowns.

They scored two more touchdowns in the second half to take the 42-7 victory.

Players to watch

QB Cardell Williams

Backup quarterback Cardell Williams, a redshirt freshman, entered the game in place of starting QB Braylon Braxton after he suffered an ankle injury. Williams was near perfect, completing 13 out of 14 pass attempts for 233 yards and three touchdowns. He also rushed for one touchdown.

RB Jordan Ford

Tulsa running back Jordan Ford rushed for 110 yards on 19 attempts for one touchdown. His longest rush went for 22 yards for a first down early in the second.

WR Marquis Shoulders

Wide receiver Marquis Shoulders caught five passes for 132 yards and two touchdowns. His scores were important in giving the Golden Hurricanes a 28-7 lead at halftime. His longest reception went for 80 yards.

DL Ben Kopenski

The Oklahoma State transfer was one of several impact players for Tulsa’s defense in Week 1. He had 10 tackles along with two sacks and 2.5 tackles for loss.

DL Owen Ostroski

Owen Ostroski, along with Kopenski, was a major disrupter in the backfield for Tulsa against Arkansas-Pine Bluff. He finished with six tackles, three of which were for a loss, and 1.5 sacks. In 2022, Ostroski had just 3.5 tackles for loss and 2.5 sacks during the entire season.

Washington football vs. Tulsa showdown

All eyes are on which team will move to a 2-0 record, although it will likely be Washington football who once again emerges victorious. The Husky offense is just too good with Michael Penix Jr. and his bag of wide receivers. However, I wouldn’t underestimate the standout performances of players like Cardell Williams, Marquis Shoulders, and Owen Ostroski which offers a glimpse of the talent and potential that Tulsa will bring to this matchup, all under the leadership of their new Head Coach Kevin Wilson.
