The arrival of Oklahoma State transfer cornerback Jabbar Muhammad has added vital starter experience to Washington football’s secondary.
The Husky Haul recently got the chance to speak with Muhammad about his adjustment to a new school, the attributes he brings to the team, and his mindset for the upcoming season.
Check out the brief interview below.
Jabbar Muhammad is ready to contribute to the rich legacy of great Washington football defensive backs.
The Husky Haul: What were the factors that contributed to your decision to join the University of Washington and become a part of the Huskies’ football program?
JM: Just a better opportunity, a better situation for me. I get to be able to be a part of a really good team and just be a part of the tradition of the great DBs who have passed through.
The Husky Haul: Can you talk about the adjustment process of transferring to a new school and joining a new team? What steps have you taken to get acclimated to the University of Washington and its football program?
JM: Adjusting wasn’t really a process, it wasn’t hard at all. When you make a decision like that and put your faith into it and have family who have your back and are with you it is essentially an easy adjustment.
The Husky Haul: What specific skills or attributes do you believe you bring to the team, and how do you hope to contribute to their success?
JM: Just being the player that I know I am. A smart, competitive, savvy, technical player and also just having some really important experience.
The Husky Haul: What is your mindset going into the upcoming season, and how do you stay motivated and focused on your goals?
JM: My mindset going into the season is to control what I can control. Take everything one game at a time and capitalize on every opportunity I get.
The Husky Haul: Are there any NFL players or college football athletes you look up to or try to model your game after?
JM: Of course! My favorite corner is Tre’Davious White. I model my game after him a lot because he can play press-man and he is also really good in off-man. Very quick and twitchy as well. I also love Asante Samuel Jr. He is really versatile—plays slot and outside and is a crazy competitor.
