Washington football has announced the hiring of Ryan Grubb as the new offensive coordinator.
The addition of Ryan Grubb marks the first hiring under new head coach Kalen DeBoer. DeBoer brings along Grubb to Washington, as they both previously coached at Fresno State.
Grubb held the same position as offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach for the Bulldogs while also serving as the associate head coach. Prior to that, he joined Fresno State in 2017 as the offensive line coach and run game coordinator.
Grubb and DeBoer’s connection goes all the way back to 2014 as the two served as the offensive line coach and offensive coordinator/QB coach, respectively.
The last time Washington hired a new head coach and offensive coordinator, the two had no connection whatsoever and it set the program back two years.
Having a head coach and offensive coordinator who have chemistry is a huge plus for the Washington football program as they move to “reload” this team.

Consistency is what this team needs right now and these two can certainly bring that to the program.
DeBoer and Grubb helped transform the Fresno State Bulldogs to a 9-3 team this past season while Grubb played a huge part in helping Jake Haener develop into a more experienced quarterback. Haener threw for 3,810 yards, 32 touchdowns, and only nine interceptions.
Rumors continue to swirl that Haener will be transferring back to Washington to reunite with his coaches. While this is still unconfirmed by Haener himself, the addition of Grubb will certainly be beneficial to the development of 5-Star quarterback Sam Huard.
The offense needed some resurgence and DeBoer and Grubb will unquestionably bring that. The Huskies finally look to be getting back on track and the 2022-2023 season couldn’t come soon enough.
