Can Washington football’s defense hold ASU to low rushing yards?
The Arizona State Sun Devils’ offense exhibits a lot of the same similarities to that of the Oregon Duck’s offense that Washington football faced last week. Their average stats in the running and passing game are quite similar and they both have a dual-threat quarterback with a number of strong running backs in the backfield.
The Sun Devils average 204.4 yards rushing per game and 5.4 yards per attempt. They have four players on the offense who have rushed for more than 200 yards each this season:
- RB Rachaad White: 114 ATT, 685 yards, 6.0 AVG, 12 TD
- QB Jayden Daniels: 84 ATT, 482 yards, 5.7 AVG, 4 TD
- RB DeaMonte Trayanum: 63 ATT, 333 yards, 5.3 AVG, 5 TD
- RB Daniyel Ngata: 43 ATT, 276 yards, 6.4 AVG, 3 TD
Jayden Daniels, similar to Oregon’s Anthony Brown, is another dual-threat quarterback ready to face the Washington Huskies. Daniels is shaping up to be a Top 100 2022 NFL Draft prospect. He’s certainly a playmaker with his legs and the Huskies are going to have to find a way to contain him.
While Arizona State’s pass offense isn’t that strong, Daniels’ targets have been pretty evenly distributed among the receivers.
The Sun Devils have seven players who have at least 100 yards receiving this season.
Three have more than 300 yards receiving:
- WR Ricky Pearsall: 35 rec, 417 yards, 2 TD
- WR LV Bunkley-Shelton: 25 rec, 357 yards, 2 TD
- TE Curtis Hodges: 17 rec, 345 yards, 1 TD
