Week 3 of the 2021 NFL preseason has almost concluded and former Washington football players are finding themselves in the headlines. Not surprisingly, almost all impact players were on defense.

Tennessee Titans defensive back Elijah Molden first made waves when he was filmed picking off a pass from Tom Brady this week in a joint practice with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. In Week 3 against the Bucs, Molden made several big plays, including an incredible “crawling” sack on rookie quarterback Kyle Trask. He had some crucial tackles and had a few pass breakups, one of which was tipped for an interception.

Washington football alum Joe Tryon proving once again he’s the steal of the draft

A week after going unblocked for a spectacular sack (that was flagged), Joe Tryon still disrupting the pocket for the Buccaneers. Against the Titans, Tryon nearly went untouched again off the edge when he beat the offensive tackle for a play on the quarterback.

Headed into the 2021 NFL Draft, the Buccaneers didn’t really have any needs. As their defense was stacked, they decided to draft Tryon anyways and it’s safe to say they got a steal. It’s difficult to imagine the kind of plays Tryon is going to make once the regular season starts.

Other Huskies making an impact in preseason Week 3:

Seattle Seahawks wide receiver Aaron Fuller caught two passes against the Denver Broncos for 25 yards and averaged 12.5 yards per reception.

Detroit Lions defensive tackle Levi Onwuzurike showed off his pass-rushing skills and his ability to penetrate the pocket against the Pittsburgh Steelers. He finished with one recorded tackle.

Miami Dolphins bell-cow running back Myles Gaskin had one rushing touchdown and one receiving touchdown against the Atlanta Falcons for a total of 71 yards.

Arizona Cardinals cornerback Byron Murphy Jr. tip-toed one hash of the endzone for an interception off of Patrick Mahomes.

As for unfortunate news, Seahawks linebacker Ben Burr-Kirven suffered a torn ACL in the opening kickoff against the Broncos and is out indefinitely.
