Washington football has landed two big-time players out of Las Vegas for the 2022 cycle!

Washington football is building a pipeline into Nevada, more specifically their elite programs in Bishop Gorman and Liberty High School. After Gorman alum Edefuan Ulofoshio broke out and became a star in 2020, fellow Gorman grad Rome Odunze made his way onto the depth chart after being one of the darlings of summer/fall camp.

Liberty alum Troy Fautanu is also a promising prospect along the offensive line, and now it looks like he’ll have at least one other member of his former team joining him on Montlake. Sir Mells, a three-star defensive tackle has committed to play in the purple and gold. The 6’4, 310-pound defensive tackle is an exciting prospect, and someone that Ikaika Malloe will be very excited to get in the building.

He moves incredibly well for his size, is versatile enough to line up across from offensive tackles and rush the passer, along with stuffing the A gap. Mells also possesses great feet, and the ability to carry an extra 10-15 pounds on his frame, which could end up seeing him being utilized similarly to Greg Gaines during his Husky career.

And that’s not all! While this article was being written, Mells’ teammate Anthony Jones (TE/OLB) committed to the University of Washington as well. We will provide a more in-depth article on him later in the day, as each commit deserves their moment to shine. But there’s a strong possibility that Jimmy Lake and his staff still aren’t done in Nevada. There are three top 150 prospects in the state, all from Bishop Gorman, and the Huskies are sure to be in on them as well.

Mells is sure to star with the Huskies after a redshirt season. After adding a lot of bodies during the 2021 cycle, it’s clear that Lake wants to build through the trenches, and this is a great piece to add.

Congratulations to Sir on his commitment, and we can’t wait to see him play in purple and gold!
