There’s a lot going on in the Washington football world, so let’s take a look at some of the highlights

For the first time since the end of the 2018 season, Washington football has been ranked by the College Football Playoff committee! Coming in at #22 overall, the Huskies are in the middle of the three ranked Pac-12 teams, ahead of #23 Oregon, and behind #20 USC. While there’s probably no way any team from the Pac-12 makes it into the playoff this season, this is a great way to start building some momentum for 2021.

More honors for the Dawgs

And when it comes to momentum, no one is building it faster than Zion Tupuola-Fetui. The redshirt sophomore is starting to get a lot of national buzz after winning his third straight. Pac-12 Defensive Lineman of the Week award. He also won the Athlon Sports Defensive Player of the Week award and is starting to buzz as an NFL prospect. It’s unclear whether or not he’ll declare for the draft after the season, but getting him to stay for another year would be huge for the pass rush, even with Laiatu Latu and Sav’ell Smalls returning.

Dylan Morris also took home an award, winning Pac-12 Freshman of the Week for the second week in a row. The redshirt freshman has proven that he’s exactly what this team needs during Saturday’s 24-21 comeback victory over Utah. He was calm and composed even when his team was down 21-0, and demonstrated how effective a leader he is.

Possible Grad Transfer?

Could the Huskies be in the mix for a former top recruit? Former four-star safety Jaiden Woodbey has opted out of the rest of Florida State’s season and has announced that he intends to play next season as a grad transfer. Before originally committing to FSU, Washington was on his shortlist of schools.

While the Seminoles have him listed as a linebacker, he would definitely move back to his natural position at safety. Washington is an incredibly difficult school to transfer to as a graduate student, but could the former Freshman All-American be interested in coming back to the west coast? Getting a former top-recruit like Woodbey into the program would be a huge testament to what Jimmy Lake is building.
