Inside linebackers

Starters: Edefuan Ulofoshio (rs. soph.), Jackson Sirmon (rs. soph.)

Backups: MJ Tafisi (rs. soph.), Daniel Heimuli (rs. frosh.)

Breakout player: Heimuli- The coveted recruit didn’t see any playing time during the 2019 season, and that should change in 2020. He plays with a high football IQ, is a sure tackler, and has excellent speed and range in the middle of the field. He’ll probably be asked to play a lot of coverage, and once he learns all his gap assignments, he should see a big increase in snaps.

Riser: Alphonzo Tuputala (rs. frosh.)- since coming to campus, Tuputala has cut about 25 pounds, and with his natural low base, it shouldn’t affect the way he plays, He’s a strong tackler, and flies to the football. Tuputala might remind some fans of a bigger Ben Burr-Kirven. He saw some action last year, and it wouldn’t be a surprise if he’s the fourth guy on the depth chart at the start of the season.
