Washington football’s all-time leading rusher seems to have found a home with the Miami Dolphins

The former Washington football superstar had to wait until the seventh round of the 2019 NFL Draft to hear his name called, but as he’s learned throughout his career, patience is key. The former three-star recruit out of O’Dea (Wash.) High School only had two D-1 offers, Washington and Washington State.

Myles Gaskin committed to Chris Petersen and the Huskies early on in the recruiting process, and he made a name for himself as soon as he got to campus. It took just three games for him to unseat Dwayne Washington as the starter, and from that point on there was no looking back. He ran away with the job, and ran for at least 1,200 yards in each of his four years on campus.

That didn’t matter to the NFL, as the 5’9, 200 pound running back was knocked for his size and workload coming out of college, which was a big part of his late selection. The Dolphins decided to take a chance on Gaskin, and that’s all he needs. While he didn’t exactly fill up the stat sheet during his rookie year (43 touches for 184 scrimmage yards and a touchdown), he’s changing that narrative in year two.

He’s already topped his numbers from last year, carrying the ball 38 times for 152 yards, and pulling in 15 receptions for 91 yards and seemingly establishing himself as Miami’s lead back, even after the Dolphins went out and signed Jordan Howard and Matt Breida in free agency to spearhead their rushing attack. Gaskin made his first career start on Thursday night against the Jaguars, and he made the most of it, accruing 27 total touches and 95 total yards.

A true hometown hero, Gaskin continues to make Husky fans proud every Sunday, and has nowhere to go from here but up. And we’ll see if announcer Joe Buck’s prediction will come true. After the first few drives of Miami’s win on Thursday night and a heavy dosage of Gaskin for the Jaguars defense, Buck said, “based on these first few drives, Myles Gaskin is going to make the Pro Bowl.”
