Washington football clearly wants to beef up their front seven with the 2021 class, and have earned the commitment of a local defensive lineman

Washington football is currently the only offer for Renton (Wash.) defensive lineman Siaosi Finau. He’s flown so far under the radar that he currently doesn’t have a star rating by 247 Sports or Rivals.  It appears that he took a virtual tour of the school today, received an offer, and committed on the spot.

There’s no way he’ll stay at just this one offer after picking up the Husky scholarship, and could see a rise similar to Bralen Trice from the 2019 class, who picked up the majority of his offers after Washington’s.

Now, what are the Huskies getting with Finau on the field? At 6’4, 270 pounds he projects out as a defensive end at the next level, who has the size to kick inside to defensive tackle. It’s worth noting that he also plays tight end, and depending on who else the Huskies get at the position, they could find a way to utilize him on the offensive side instead. But let’s evaluate him as a defensive lineman.

On film, there’s a lot to like. Finau is clearly a projection, who could take two or three years to develop. He closes out plays very well, and seems to crave contact. He moves very well for his size, which is more what coaches should look for in projection takes like him. His hand usage and technique could use a lot of work, but that’s what a redshirt year and time on the scout team is for.

There isn’t a lot left to say about the defensive line class. The only thing left for Ikaika Malloe is to get J.T. Tuimoloau. It’s a tall order, but the Huskies are in a very good position to land the number one player in the country. And with all the depth/projection takes along the defensive line, it’s clear that Washington is giving him a clear path to start as a true freshman (should he pick the Huskies that is).

Congratulations to Siaosi on his commitment, and we can’t wait to see him play in purple and gold!
