Washington football has landed another commit on the defensive side of the ball, and they’re starting to gain some in-state momentum!

Washington football is dealing with an absolutely loaded in-state class during the 2021 recruiting cycle, and they’ve managed to land another big-time player! Will Latu, out of Bethel (Wash.) High School a four-star athlete linebacker, is Jimmy Lake’s latest commit on the defensive side of the ball.

Latu is a standout at Bethel on both sides of the ball, and displays elite instincts while playing running back. He’s a linebacker at the next level because of his size, and will probably be utilized similarly to Shaq Thompson. He has speed, power, and is fluid enough to do everything Washington asks of their middle linebackers. Latu is going to be an exciting, versatile piece to add to the defense, and it’s always great to add more in-state guys who will fight for the program.

He chose the Huskies over a final four that included Michigan, USC, and Utah along with UW. Latu might see the field a little during his first season on campus, but in all likelihood will not burn his redshirt. With his size and speed, he should get a chance to prove himself on special teams at the very least. With the four-game redshirt rule, it’s very probable that he gets a few snaps if the team plays in any blowouts.

Another important thing to note about Latu, is the fact that he works out with Ford Sports Performance, and can join Sam Huard in what’s sure to be his daily recruitment of the nation’s number one player, J.T. Tuimoloau. There are only a few spots left on the defensive side, and one of them is reserved for Tuimoloau. As the Huskies continue to build on the in-state class, they can’t afford any more misses.

Congratulations to Will on his commitment, and we can’t wait to see him play in purple and gold!
