Washington football’s star quarterback gets selected in the fourth round by the Indianapolis Colts!

A former five-star recruit, the Indianapolis Colts have gotten great value, Washington football’s Jacob Eason as their quarterback of the future. With Philip Rivers and Jacoby Brissett already on the roster, it doesn’t look likely that Eason will start from day one. He’ll probably be their quarterback of the future, as both of the other quarterbacks on the roster are free agents after the 2020 season.

During his only year with the Huskies, Eason finished third all-time in single-season passing yards at Washington (3,132) to go along with 23 touchdown passes. With questions about character concerns dating back to his days at Georgia, the Colts are getting a steal at pick 122 overall.

Eason is walking into an incredible all-around situation on offense, with one of the best offensive lines in the league, and an ever-improving group of pass-catchers, he’s going to be walking into an established situation when he steps on the field after a “redshirt” season at the NFL level.

The Colts have done an excellent job building an offense of the future in this draft, taking USC’s Michael Pittman Jr. to play across from TY Hilton and their second-round pick from the 2019 draft, Parris Campbell.

The Colts also invested in a running back of the future in Wisconsin’s Jonathan Taylor. Taylor will probably end up being the full time back by the time Eason makes his first NFL start. Having an established back to depend on, running behind an offensive line that includes three All-Pro players is going to be huge for Eason. Indianapolis GM Chris Ballard has done an excellent job building this team for a young quarterback to come in and succeed, and learning from one of the NFL’s best in Rivers will do nothing but help Eason succeed in the long run.

Only time will tell how his NFL career will pan out, but this is the perfect situation for Eason. He can learn an NFL offense and gain chemistry with some of Indianapolis’ young receivers on the practice filed so that when the lights come on, he’ll be ready to lead the Colts to the playoffs in his first year as a starter.
