Washington football: Eason should come back for 2020

Washington football should do everything they can to retain their superstar quarterback for 2020, and he should strongly consider coming back.

Jacob Eason is arguably the most talented quarterback Washington football has ever had. He also hasn’t gotten much help from the group of senior wide receivers this season against Pac-12 defenses, which will lead to scouts believing that Eason doesn’t have the accuracy to get it done against top tier competition. This will push him down the draft board in a quarterback class that’s very uncertain right now.

With LSU’s Joe Burrow rising up the boards, and scouts rumored to be in love with (no pun intended) Utah State’s Jordan Love, along with the love for Alabama’s Tua Tagovailoa and Oregon’s Justin Herbert (who is starting to fall down boards), that’s four potential first round quarterbacks right there, without including the recent riser in Oklahoma’s Jalen Hurts. This really messes up Eason’s potential draft position, and could push him down some team’s boards.

Now is this saying he isn’t a top 10 talent? No, absolutely not. Daniel Jones and Josh Allen were both top 10 picks, and Eason is worlds better than both of them, but with so many other options, NFL teams might be a little more wary to pick Eason if they see better production and similar traits from someone else.

The 2021 class is going to be a tougher road to QB1, with uber talented quarterbacks Justin Fields and Trevor Lawrence slotted to be part of it, but it doesn’t look to be as solid of an all-around draft class as 2020. With a big game to open the year against Michigan, and more road tests for the Huskies, Eason can solidify himself as the top five talent that he is.

With the exodus of five senior receivers this season, Eason will have a completely new cast of highly talented receivers to throw to next season, including incoming freshman Jalen McMillan and Rome Odunze, we (hopefully) will see a change in the Husky offense and Eason can show off what he can really do.

Another huge reason that Eason should consider sticking around is simply, Sav’ell Smalls. If the Huskies can keep around all their draft eligible talent (namely Keith Taylor, Elijah Molden, and Hunter Bryant), along with everyone who’s coming in, the Dawgs will have one of the most talented all-around teams in the nation. The special teams has been worlds better this season, the defense can gel for another season, and there will be no choice but to play all the top tier talent waiting in the wings at wide receiver, that’s a complete team that can play with anyone in the country.
