Washington football needs to rebound in the desert after an embarrassing loss against Stanford
The Arizona Wildcats are 4-1, and 2-0 in Pac-12 play this season. Washington football has had a tough time in the desert for a while, and this weekend shouldn’t be any different.
Khalil Tate is one of the best dual threat quarterbacks in the country, and the Husky defense will have their hands full with him, and especially after such a tough weekend at Stanford, it’ll be a key matchup to watch. Tate does everything well, and defensive coordinator Jimmy Lake will need to find a way to contain him
Senior Cedric Peterson is Tate’s big play threat. He caught three passes against Colorado in Arizona’s last game for 99 yards, including a 75 yard touchdown.
Tate spread the ball around very well, completing passes to 11 different receivers against the Buffaloes; however, junior Brian Casteel is his go-to guy. On the season he has 21 catches for 180 yards with the one touchdown
On defense, Arizona is led by their junior linebackers Colin Schooler, Tony Fields, and Anthony Pandy. As a sophomore, Schooler was named to the All Pac-12 First Team.
Fields was second on the team in tackles last year with 89. As a freshman he was named to the all-American freshmen team. Against Colorado last week he had ten tackles in the game to lead Arizona. Pandy has 27 tackles so far on the season with a sack and an interception.
Arizona’s defense will have to be ready for an angry Washington offense, who didn’t look so hot against Stanford. Washington’s offense will want to go out and prove the doubters wrong. Jacob Eason will need to be utilized to his fullest potential, and the receivers will need to go out and catch the football against an Arizona defense with numbers very similar to Stanford’s, but hopefully we can see a different result this week.
