They’ve done it!! Washington football has locked up the most important recruit in the history of the program, and he changes EVERYTHING

Washington football’s 2020 class just went from being a huge success to arguably their best ever. Locking up outside linebacker Sav’ell Smalls does so many amazing things for the program, so where do we start?

Well, obviously, we start with him as a football player. Smalls is a five-star prospect, currently rated ninth overall by 247 Sports, but if you ask any Husky fan, they will (correctly) tell you that he’s the best player in the 2020 class. He’s a perfect fit at outside linebacker for the UW defense, and can slot in right away as an instant starter. With Smalls and Laiatu Latu at outside linebacker, and Sam Taimani and Tuli Letuligasenoa in the middle, opposing quarterbacks won’t stand a chance.

Now, let’s get to what this means to the program. Smalls is the highest rated in-state recruit since Foster Sarrell, the highest-rated commit for the Huskies since Shaq Thompson, and highest-rated in-state commit since Reggie Williams. So what all does this mean for the future of the program?

Smalls is just the start of an in-state movement the likes of which Washington high school football has never seen before. Three of the top 10 players in the country in the 2021 class live in Washington, including the number one player in the country, J.T. Tuimoloau. Smalls can start an in-state movement that can lead the Huskies to a national championship (which he promised to bring home, but we’ll get to that in a minute). With the influx of talent the Huskies are seeing over the last few seasons, and what can possibly come in 2020 and 2021, there’s no reason to not believe it’s achievable.

Now, on to his promise. Smalls promised during his commitment to bring home Washington’s first national championship since 1991, and with the leverage in recruiting that he can bring, who’s to say that he can’t do it? With the in-state talent that was mentioned above, combined with the guys that really like Washington from out of state, and how well the Huskies are doing in California, it’s more than achievable. Dreams are going to become a reality for Husky nation, and by 2023, Smalls will have delivered on his promise.

Last but not least, this is a huge win for UW recruiting Twitter, because fans MATTER. Husky nation has shown Smalls more love than any other program, to the point where Smalls’ dad called out certain programs (not to name any names, Alabama) for not giving the top 10 prospect the attention he deserves. So, good riddance to anyone who tells you that your voice doesn’t matter, and use this as leverage for any future recruits, because your voice is heard by these recruits.

Congratulations to Sav’ell for staying home, and as a member of Husky nation, let me say we are overjoyed to see you stay home and play in purple and gold!!
